Digital mammography and breast imaging

Mammography uses low energy x-rays to pass through the compressed breast during the examination.  The departing x-rays are absorbed onto an electronic digital detector which is then displayed on a high resolution computer monitor.  Radiologists can then manipulate the image to better visualise specific breast tumours which might be harder to see on a conventional photographic film.
